The new library will open November, 2009

The County of Yolo, in partnership with the Winters Joint Unified School District, the City of Winters, The Winters Friends of the Library, the Margaret Parsons Trust and the community of Winters have come together to build a new joint use (community and high school) library on the Winters High School campus. Serving equally the high school and the community, the new facility will feature significantly increased hours of operations during the school year, expanded public access computers and a fresh materials collection of books, DVDs and CDs. Designated spaces will be available for storytelling, group study and tutoring as well as a divisible community meeting room.

Why is a new library being built?
A new library is desperately needed in Winters, as the existing facility was built in the 1950’s as a TEMPORARY facility for the California Bureau of Reclamation during the construction of the Monticello Dam. Constructed of cinderblocks on a concrete floor coupled with a flat roof, the building poses many challenges for modern use. In spite of numerous repairs and replacement efforts, the roof leaks causing extensive damage to the ceilings, walls and materials. The concrete walls and flooring pose significant problems to the modern needs of the community as it grows and technology demands increase. The above names only some of the severe problems growing at the current location. The new library will offer more space, expanded children programs, protected materials, expanded technology area, and longer operating hours to enhance the growing needs of the community.
